Khet Bachao Abhiyan Launched Nationwide to Promote Soil Health and Sustainable Farming
Khet Bachao Abhiyan

Raisen, Madhya Pradesh: Union Minister for Agriculture & Farmers Welfare and Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan launched the nationwide ‘Khet Bachao Abhiyan’ from Ramasiya village in Raisen district, Madhya Pradesh. The month-long campaign will run from June 1 to June 30, 2026, focusing on soil health, balanced fertiliser use, water conservation, and scientific farming practices.

Addressing farmers at the launch event, the Minister emphasised that healthy soil is the foundation of sustainable agriculture and long-term farmer prosperity. He urged farmers to adopt balanced fertiliser use based on scientific soil testing and avoid excessive use of chemical fertilisers and pesticides.

Focus on Soil Health and Scientific Farming

Under the campaign, agricultural scientists, experts from agricultural universities, Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), and agriculture department officials will visit villages across the country to create awareness about:

  • Soil Testing and Soil Health Cards
  • Balanced nutrient management
  • Natural farming practices
  • Water conservation techniques
  • Modern sowing methods
  • Advanced agricultural technologies

The Minister highlighted that Soil Health Cards can help farmers apply nutrients according to the actual needs of their land, reducing cultivation costs while improving productivity and maintaining soil fertility.

Training and Demonstrations for Farmers

As part of the initiative, special field demonstrations will be organised for crops such as soybean, paddy, and pulses. Farmers will receive guidance on:

  • Improved seed varieties
  • Scientific sowing techniques
  • Laser levellers
  • Water-efficient farming methods
  • Seed treatment practices

Training programmes will also be conducted with support from Krishi Vigyan Kendras and agricultural institutions.

Awareness Against Counterfeit Inputs

The campaign will additionally focus on educating farmers about counterfeit fertilisers and pesticides. Farmers will be informed about suitable crop choices, seed varieties, green manure practices, and scientific methods that support sustainable farming.

Women and Youth Participation

According to the Minister, the campaign will also promote women’s participation through Self-Help Groups (SHGs) by linking them with livelihood and self-employment opportunities. Efforts will also be made to support youth through skill development and guidance programmes.

Strengthening Farmer Connectivity

Large-scale agricultural awareness campaigns highlight the importance of ensuring that information reaches farmers effectively. Platforms like KisanSabha contribute to this broader agricultural ecosystem by connecting farmers with dealers, transporters, and other stakeholders, helping improve communication and coordination across the farming value chain.

As initiatives related to soil health, scientific farming, and agricultural modernisation expand, stronger connectivity among agricultural stakeholders can support better access to information and opportunities at the grassroots level.
