PM Modi Highlights Farmer Welfare Initiatives as NDA Government Completes 12 Years

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reiterated the government’s commitment to farmer welfare and agricultural development as the NDA government completed 12 years in office. Through a series of messages shared under the hashtag #12YearsOfKisanSamriddhi, the Prime Minister highlighted key initiatives aimed at improving farmers’ incomes, strengthening rural livelihoods, and modernising Indian agriculture.

The Prime Minister described farmers as the backbone of the country’s food security, nutrition, and economic growth, stating that the government continues to work towards making farming more productive, profitable, and sustainable.

Focus on Farmer Welfare and Income Support

PM Modi highlighted flagship schemes such as the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) and the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), which aim to provide income support and financial protection to farmers.

According to official data, more than ₹4.28 lakh crore has been transferred directly to nearly 9.5 crore farmer families under PM-KISAN. The scheme provides eligible farmers with annual financial assistance of ₹6,000 in three installments.

The Prime Minister also noted that crop insurance claims worth approximately ₹1.92 lakh crore have benefited nearly 23 crore farmers under the crop insurance programme.

Expanding Access to Credit and Resources

The government highlighted the role of Kisan Credit Cards (KCCs) in providing affordable credit to farmers, livestock rearers, and fishermen. PM Modi stated that easier access to institutional credit has helped strengthen rural livelihoods and support agricultural activities.

In addition, initiatives such as the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Maandhan Yojana continue to provide pension support to eligible small and marginal farmers.

Modernisation of Agriculture

The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of technology and innovation in agriculture. Initiatives related to drone technology, Soil Health Cards, and natural farming practices are being promoted to improve farm efficiency and productivity.

Official figures show that nearly 26 crore Soil Health Cards have been issued across the country from 2014-15 to March 2026, helping farmers make informed decisions regarding nutrient management and soil health.

The government also highlighted programmes such as the PM-KUSUM Scheme, which promotes the use of solar energy in agriculture and aims to reduce farming costs.

Growth in Agricultural Production

According to official data, India’s foodgrain production has increased from 265 million tonnes in 2013-14 to approximately 358 million tonnes in 2024-25. India has also emerged as the world’s largest rice producer, with rice production crossing 154 million tonnes.

The government further stated that Minimum Support Prices (MSPs) for major crops continue to be fixed at least 1.5 times the cost of production to support remunerative returns for farmers.

Connecting Farmers with the Agricultural Ecosystem

As agriculture continues to evolve through government schemes, technology adoption, and market-oriented reforms, access to reliable information and agricultural networks becomes increasingly important.

Platforms such as KisanSabha contribute to the broader agricultural ecosystem by connecting farmers with dealers, transporters, and other stakeholders. Improved communication and connectivity can help farmers stay engaged with market opportunities and developments across the agriculture sector.
