On 12 August, one Metric Tonne of organic black rice Chak-Hao has been exported to Europe.\u00a0Manipur\u00a0Prime\u00a0Minister\u00a0N. Biren Singh<\/strong>\u00a0flagged off\u00a0the\u00a0organic\u00a0black rice\u00a0consignment\u00a0at an\u00a0event\u00a0held\u00a0on 12 August at\u00a0Imphal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also\u00a0flagged off\u00a0vehicles carrying\u00a0high-quality\u00a0seeds for distribution to\u00a0residents\u00a0in various parts\u00a0of the\u00a0State\u00a0affected by\u00a0the destruction\u00a0of poppy\u00a0plantations\u00a0by\u00a0the\u00a0government’s\u00a0‘war\u00a0on\u00a0drugs<\/strong>‘\u00a0campaign.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The CM tweeted, \u201cThe support extended by Govt. of India has enabled our farmers to export our products at a remunerative price. The people of Manipur thank Hon\u2019 PM @narendramodi Ji for his unwavering support for our farmers<\/em>.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The CM\u00a0also congratulated\u00a0several sectors\u00a0for their\u00a0export\u00a0and cooperation\u00a0which\u00a0helps\u00a0farmers reach wider\u00a0markets\u00a0and\u00a0buy\u00a0local produce\u00a0at good prices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These\u00a0high-quality seeds\u00a0are being distributed to villagers of the state under the\u00a0Alternative Seed Distribution Scheme\u00a0of the\u00a0Department of Horticulture\u00a0and\u00a0Soil Conservation of State Government.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

About Black Rice:<\/strong>\u00a0<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Chakhao Amubi is\u00a0a\u00a0type of sticky black rice\u00a0native\u00a0to Manipur.”Chakho” stands for\u00a0delicious while \u201cAmbui\u201d means black. It is generally plated on special occasions and on events of festivals.\u00a0After cooking,\u00a0it\u00a0turns purple from black\u00a0and has a slightly nutty\u00a0taste.\u00a0Cultivation\u00a0of black rice\u00a0is believed\u00a0to have begun when\u00a0early Manipur\u00a0settlers came\u00a0here.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It has\u00a0a high\u00a0proportion of antioxidants.\u00a0Antioxidants\u00a0can improve the level of\u00a0immunity and help your body\u00a0better prevent\u00a0various\u00a0diseases\u00a0and infections.\u00a0In Manipur, there are more than 4,500 hectares\u00a0of black rice\u00a0planted with\u00a0a history\u00a0of\u00a0hundreds of years.\u00a0Its high\u00a0nutritional\u00a0value and\u00a0gluten-free\u00a0nature,\u00a0as\u00a0well\u00a0as its\u00a0use\u00a0for\u00a0traditional medicinal purposes, make its market price\u00a0in Imphal\u00a0Rs.100\u00a0rupees, Rs. 120 per\u00a0kilogram<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
