Godrej Agrovet\u2019s Oil Palm Plantation business has launched a new superior high yielding Oil Palm sapling raised out of\u00a0semi\u00a0clonal seeds sourced from Malaysia.\u00a0These saplings were\u00a0distributed\u00a0to\u00a0the farmers\u00a0under\u00a0the\u00a0Godrej Agrovet\u00a0factory zone in\u00a0the West Godavari district\u00a0of Andhra Pradesh.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Oil Palm is the most productive edible oil yielding plant in the world and plays a vital role in meeting the vegetable oil requirement of India. However,\u00a0farmers are unable to maintain the\u00a0return on\u00a0investment\u00a0levels of the past\u00a0due to relatively low yields of existing saplings (Tenera Hybrids) compounded by environmental stress like low rainfall, drought, etc. The new variety\u00a0will\u00a0play a vital role in meeting the vegetable oil\u00a0demand\u00a0in\u00a0India by overcoming these challenges.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nasim Ali, CEO of Oil Palm Plantation, Godrej Agrovetsaid,\u00a0\u201cAgricultural issues created by\u00a0environmental stress\u00a0have\u00a0been directly impacting\u00a0the farmer\u2019s\u00a0earnings.\u00a0Godrej Agrovet has been\u00a0a frontrunner in\u00a0serving the Indian farmers\u00a0for\u00a0three\u00a0decades\u00a0now and will continue to provide innovative solutions.\u00a0We are\u00a0expecting\u00a0to bring around 160 to 170 hectares area under the new variety\u00a0of the oil palm saplings\u00a0during October and November 2020 in Andhra Pradesh.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dr R K Mathur, Director, ICAR- IIOPR (Indian Institute of Oil Palm Research),APsaid, \u201cOil Palm is a perennial crop and the returns from oil palm plantation is higher as compared to other oil seeds. The saplings of high yielding variety from Godrej Agrovet may improve the farmer\u2019s income and thus contribute towards self-reliance in edible oil sector.\u201d\u202f\u202f <\/p>\n\n\n\n
